The buzz is catching: the Scarborough Stingers rep baseball program has grown faster than anticipated in only six years.

The Stingers program was started by the Scarborough Baseball Association and fully endorsed by its member’s leagues – Birchmount, East Toronto, West Hill and Wexford-Agincourt – to provide an elite program for top players in Scarborough and East Toronto.

For 2009 the Stingers will field a full slate of teams from Minor Mosquito (born 1999) to Junior (born 1988 to 1990). The program is based out of Nielson Park; the Midget and Junior squads play on the major diamond (considered to be one of the top fields in Toronto), while younger teams such as the mosquito and peewee squads play on the adjacent field. Some Bantam games are also played at Highview Park.

The Stingers clubs compete in the Toronto Baseball Association loop, which is interlocked with the York-Simcoe Baseball Assocaition, and in tournaments throughout the season.

Since the inception of the Stingers program, the SBA’s member leagues have gradually stepped away from rep baseball to focus on house league programs, and forming house league select programs which continue to grow. Select baseball provides an excellent bridge between house league and rep baseball for developing players.
